"Rising Thunder"

 Cat Corcilius

Cathy Corcilius, nicknamed "CAT" has become known mostly for her paintings of American Indian women. Cat's paintings depict many common bonds of womanhood....pride in heritage, respect for tradition, strength of character, passion, and often tempting charm. She also paints still lifes, various American wildlife, and landscapes.

While in high school Cat won several scholarships to the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California, and took summer classes. Cat gained some art education there, but her dream of continuing her art education and becoming a full time artist was not to be for many years.

Other than the summer classes in Los Angeles, and tutelage from several renowned artists, Cat is basically a self-taught artist. Cat began her career painting people and the American Indian woman was her favorite subject. Her interest having been instilled by her Mother, who loved everything western.

Cat is adept in several mediums, oil, acrylic, pastel and gouache. Cat's work tends to be realistic and she likes to place her subjects in Southwestern settings.

Cat's paintings stir the imagination and are embraced in dramatic color and atmosphere. She is a gifted and imaginative artist, her paintings can transport you to another time and place, engage you in an Indian legend, or open your eyes to a modern Indian woman.

Cat's original paintings and limited edition prints can be found in homes, businesses and galleries in nearly every state, and including several other countries. Her collector limited edition prints of the American Indian woman are sold out, but are highly sought after on the secondary market.

Cat's work is featured on Leanin' Tree greeting cards, and several pieces have been chosen by collector plate companies for publication on collector plates.
